Rift Oasis
From Mexicali: the Cerro Prieto mud volcanoes, Guadalupe canyon where you can bathe, and Puertecitos, which you watch from the beach.
Road line from OpenStreetMap data.
The peninsula is tearing away and the heat sits close to the surface. Cerro Prieto is the show: mud and fumaroles from 85 to 95 °C, on pavement, beside Mexicali. Guadalupe is the oasis, from 35 to 40 °C, with camping at the end of a dirt road. Puertecitos ends on the beach, between 60 and 70 °C: you visit, you do not bathe.
- Cerro Prieto and Puertecitos are not soaks. The only one to enter is Guadalupe, and you sleep there in camp.
- Guadalupe is a dirt-road canyon. Do it in daylight and do not stack Puertecitos on the same day.
- Geiseres de Cerro Prieto to Oasis Cañón de Guadalupe is 3 h 26 min of driving. Better to end the day before you set off.
- Oasis Cañón de Guadalupe to Aguas Termales de Puertecitos is 6 h 50 min of driving. Better to end the day before you set off.
